Lest We Forget
On the eleventh hour
Of the eleventh day
In the eleventh month...
The guns fell silent on the Western front…
The Great War, the war to end all wars, was done…
Many of our youth and manhood lay still and dead on the battlefields of Europe…
The war was over for them forever…
But our Star Spangled Banner kept her lonely vigil over their graves…
And stayed to watch the poppies grow...amid the crosses...row on row in Flanders Fields…
This month we set aside November 11th to honor all Veterans who have served their country from the Revolutionary War to present day.
Please take a minute from your busy day to seek out that Veteran in your family, workplace, Lodge or place of worship… and thank that Veteran for their service to our country.
I often see a bumper sticker that reads “If you can read this, thank a teacher!”… If I may add to this: “If you are reading this in English, Thank a Veteran”. God Bless our Veterans...God Bless America
